As of August 2, 2026, the Commission's office dedicated to artificial intelligence, together with national authorities, is enforcing the transparency provisions of the AI Act: anyone using an automated system must be able to recognize it, and content that is generated or manipulated must be labeled as such. Penalties reach 15 million euros or 3% of global annual turnover for companies, and 750 thousand euros for institutions and bodies of the Union. Guidelines have been published for providers and users, with a code of conduct as a route to demonstrate compliance (European Commission; information note).
